Aims of the Project
PAM-APF was established in early 1999. This Forum emphasises:
-
fostering the exchange of information amongst colleagues;
-
ensuring that publishers are aware of technological weaknesses in developing
countries, especially in the Asia Pacific Region; and
-
assisting colleagues to obtain the bibliographic information required by
their research communities.
Current activities of PAM-APF
- The trial of email partnerships between librarians/information
specialists in developing countries and those in developed countries, is
now being established. Letters inviting the first group of partners were posted in December 1999. This trial goup will be monitored for a few months
and their feed back will assist with the organisation
of all future partnerships. We should have all those interested in participating
involved by the middle of next year.
-
As at June 1999 the pam-apf discussion list included about 120 participants
from 24 countries.
-
A survey was undertaken at the time the Forum was established. The results
were presented at the 1999 SLA Annual Conference, PAM Roundtable Session,
by Christina Louis of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
-
The methods of assistance that can be provided were discussed at our
first meeting, at the Australian Library and Information Association's
Conference,Strait
