ANU Faculties

The Faculties at the Australian National University combine the teaching of undergraduates, with a strong commitment to research and graduate training. There are five faculties: Arts, Asian Studies, Economics and Commerce, Law and Science (including engineering). A sixth Faculty, Engineering and Information Sciences was established in 1993. The Faculties also incorporates the Institute of the Arts, (which comprises the Canberra School of Music, the Canberra School of Art and the Australian Centre for the Arts and Technology).

Established in 1991, the Graduate School spans the Institute of Advanced Studies and The Faculties and offers a range of University-wide programs. Each program covers the whole of the University's graduate education in the subject concerned and draws on the expertise of all the staff in that field. Students enrol in a primary program and may be affiliated with up to two other programs. In this way students have access to far greater resources than would be the case if they were enrolled in a single department, Faculty or School.
