During my PhD I created a useful perl script specifically designed to easily calculate the redshift of emission lines. If you give in several emission line wavelengths it calculates the average redshift. On the other hand, a redshift can be entered and the appropriate wavelengths come rolling out of it. It comes with a wavelength list (vacuum wavelengths) for important emission lines in star forming galaxies and a few strong absorption features in early type galaxies. This database is just a text file and can easily be changed. Just look at the accompanying file. This script requires Perl and Perl::Tk. You might have to adjust the path to perl in the first line of the script. You can click on the screenshot at the left for a larger screenshot. Look at the help for a more detailed explanation of all functions of the calculator.
